What are the typical early signs of leprosy (Tamil)
For many people, the first signs of leprosy are pale or red skin patches which may show a loss of feeling. This means that the affected person may not feel anything when she or he touches this area.
Another typical sign can be that nerves under the skin are thickened.
As leprosy damages the nerves, loss of feeling and difficulty in moving fingers and toes can occur. Difficulties may also occur in closing the eyes.
The problems that may occur are explained in module “Why is it important that I detect early signs and get treatment early?
