Leprosy is also known as Hansen's disease. It is a disease caused by germs called Mycobacteria leprae and primarily attacks the skin and nerves of a person. Though it develops very slowly, if not treated leprosy can lead to a variety of problems including patches on skin, loss of feeling and sensation, eye damage or difficulty in moving fingers and toes.
