ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Thyolo is one of the districts in Malawi with very high rates of

poverty, many early marriage cases, issues related to violation of human rights, poor land

management and HIV/AIDS pandemic. The causes of the above problems can range from lack of

enough arable land, the traditional cultural practices to poor educational background. Such being

the case, many youths, more especially young women, are engaging in unprotected sex and this

consequently lead to spread of HIV/AIDS and cases of unplanned pregnancies. It is from the

above reasons why the Chipembere Community Development Organization was formed.

CCDO is a grassroots community organization established by concerned individuals around

Thyolo communities in 2010 and got registered with Malawi government under the Trustees

incorporation act of 1962 (chapter 5:03) in 2010. It is a local nonprofit making organization

created with an aim of promoting good health, sustainable social and economic development to

marginalized or under privileged; enhance well conserved environment; work in climatic change

resilience and food security; and to alleviate poverty and mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS and

chronic illnesses through provision of educational, recreational and lifelong learning

opportunities for orphans & vulnerable children and the youth.

MISSION

CCDO exists to promote interventions that build the wellbeing of under privileged people

through capacity development, advocacy and impact mitigation.

VISION

CCDO has a vision to see a community which is free from poverty, where every individual

enjoys freedoms and rights.

OBJECTIVES OF CCDO

CCDO’s objectives are weaved into the following:

a) Alleviate the impact of chronic illnesses including HIV and AIDS through provision of

evidence based interventions among the targeted.

b) Develop to full capacity the Malawian child in order for them to contribute effectively

towards national development.

c) Design and implement interventions that shall significantly improve the lives of orphans

and vulnerable children in Malawi.

d) Promote community development through innovative approaches deployed in various

targeted communities for the benefit of the marginalized child.

e) Advance the rights and freedoms of vulnerable groups through advocacy, lobbying and
